Healthy Holiday Eating For Your Dog

We all tend to overindulge during the holiday, our dogs included. There’s a tendency to give dogs a taste of this and that, but doing so can lead to digestive upset for them. The November 2012 issue of Whole Dog Journal has a list of healthy holiday food substitutions for your dog. Check some of them out below:
Feed This:
- Skinless turkey meat instead of turkey skin or drippings
- Green beans instead of green bean casserole with onions
- Berries instead of berry pie
- Canned pumpkin instead of pumpkin pie
- Plain yogurt instead of whipped cream or other milk products
- Apple slices instead of apple pie
- Plain mashed potatoes instead of potatoes with butter and/or sour cream
- Lean ham meat instead of fatty ham scraps
- Broccoli instead of broccoli casserole with cheese
- Low fat gravy instead of gravy made with drippings
- Unsweetened applesauce instead of applesauce with added sugar
- Cinnamon instead of nutmeg
- Giblets instead of cooked bones
- Plain sweet potato instead of candied yams with marshmallows
