There are new gadgets hitting the market every day, and when it comes to managing your dog’s care.  An article in the Spring 2013 issue of The Bark identifies some fun and funky gadgets in the works. Check these out:

  • Ashpoopie.  This one was of particular interest to me, since I have to “manage” dog waste daily.  The Ashpoopie is a souped up pooper scooper that turns your dog’s waste into ash!  I went to the website ashpoopie.com and found some information on the device, but important things like price and how long it takes to receive it were not there.
  • Pet CFL.  These are energy efficient lightbulbs that have a built-in ionizer to trap pet dander in the air.  This would be a real plus for those that suffer with pet allergies.  The reviews I saw on these were mixed.  A four pack of 15 watt bulbs is available for $29.55 from Amazon.  Check them out at Purely Products PA154M35P 3500 Kelvin 15 Watt Mini Pet Compact Fluorescent Lamp Bulb, 4-Pack
  • Sureflap.  The Sureflap is a pet door that can be programmed to identify your pet by their microchips.  The device can also be programmed to allow or deny access at specific times.  A great idea, but it works only if your pet is microchipped.  There is a cat door available now via Amazon, and in checking the sureflap.com site, there is a model coming soon for larger cats/small dogs.  The cost from Amazon is $133.70 for white, brown is $139.99.  Check it out at SureFlap Microchip Cat Door- White
  • WaterDog.  Pets like their drinking water cool and fresh when they’re outside, and the WaterDog provides it.  This product is a water fountain with built-in sensor that determines when your pet is within three feet, turns the water on, then turns it off again when your pet walks away.  Available from Amazon.com for $59.00.  Check it out at Contech 300000408 WaterDog Automatic Outdoor Pet Drinking Fountain.

Have you tried any of these products?  If so, what was your impression?  Please leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
