Where There’s a Will….Leaving an Enduring Legacy for Pets

Jessie, the charitable canine, here to dish on ways to create your inspiring legacy: If you have a will or are considering preparing one, why not consider including a gift to The Humane Society of the United States in your will or living trust? This is known as a charitable request, which offers the following benefits:
1.) Simplicity. All it takes is a few sentences in your will or trust to make this a legitimate request.
2.) Flexibility. Because this gift is bestowed upon your death, you can change your mind at any time during your lifetime.
3.) Versatility. You can set up the request to leave a specific item or certain amount of money. You can also choose to make the gift contingent upon certain events or just leave a percentage of your estate to the Humane Society.
4.) Tax Relief. If you have an estate that is subject to estate tax, your gift to The Humane Society is entitled to an estate tax charitable donation for the gift’s full value. Be sure to speak with your tax advisor on this matter.
In order to set this up, all you need is a will or a revocable living trust. After your lifetime, The Humane Society of the United States will receive your gift! What an inspiring legacy to leave!
