In last night’s Best In Show competition at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Siba, a Standard Poodle, was crowned the winner.
Although Poodles have the appearance of being very fragile, they are anything but that! They come in three sizes: Toy, Miniature and Standard.
Poodle Facts
This breed is often believed to be of French origin. Poodles actually originated in Germany, bred to be water retrieving dogs.
Poodles are the 7th most popular breed in the United States. They are extremely intelligent, ranking second only to the Border Collie.
This breed sheds little to none. On the downside, they must be groomed every 6-8 weeks to minimize matting and keep their coat looking its best.
My Experience With This Breed
As a Poodle Mom that’s owned both a toy and now two miniature Poodles, they are great companions, are easy to train, and are up for just about anything! They are quite social with other dogs and like to do things with their people.
Another aspect of this breed I’ve experienced, they are good around cats. I haven’t had to worry about them chasing my cat Marty around the house!
