Well, the time has come….your kids have shown they’re ready and willing to care for a dog. Now that you’ve made the decision to add a dog to the family, what are some breeds that might be a good fit?
Golden Retriever-This beautiful breed, which is a bit smaller than a Labrador Retriever, but does have a similar personality. Goldens are playful, have a sweet personality and are very intelligent. They do need to be brushed regularly to keep their coat looking its best.
Labrador Retriever-What can I say about one of the most popular breeds in the country? As stated above with the Golden Retriever, labs are great with children due to their playfulness, intelligence and willingness to please and be with their people.
Beagle-This sturdy little breed can handle lots of play, even rough housing from time to time with their family. Beagles are intelligent, full of energy and get along great with people and other animals.
Newfoundland-This breed could be termed a “gentle giant”. Newfies will very loving and protective of children. The Newfoundland is kind, gentle, and intelligent. They do shed quite a bit and due to their size would do best in a larger home they can share with their family.
Bichon Frise-This attractive little breed is very intelligent, faithful and obedient. Bichons do require regular grooming to keep their coats looked their best.
This list is just a sample of family-friendly breeds. Each family and dog are different, so it’s best for all family members and any other pets to meet the potential addition to the family before making a final decision.
