It’s the Animal’s Day
Posted on October 4, 2010 by Joy of Living No comments

Today is World Animal Day where animals of all types are honored. The celebration began in Florence, Italy in 1931 at an ecologist’s convention. October 4 was originally chosen as World Animal Day because it is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, who was a nature lover and patron saint of the environment and animals.
The Mission Statement of World Animal Day is:
- To celebrate animal life in all its forms
- To celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom
- To acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives
- To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives
Hundreds of events in over 73 countries worldwide took place today in honor of World Animal Day. This celebration is not linked to a specific organization or individual but is intended to be a chance for animal welfare advocates worldwide to bring focus to animals.
Happy World Animal Day! Please share with us celebrations that were held in your area to showcase this event.
