Even Poop Has a Purpose

Here’s an interesting item…….

A park in Cambridge, Massachusetts is being illuminated with the help of doggie doo.  The dog by-product was used to power a gas lamp style lantern.  After dogs took care of their business, dog owners picked up after their pets and deposited the bags in an oil tank.  Microbes in the tank converted the waste into methane that fueled the lamp.

MIT funded the project with a $4,000 grant to one of its students.  The student proposed the idea as a way to add visual interest to the park, keep the park clean and safer after dark.
